A Week with Fun Stuff in It

by Susan DaffronProtected by Copyscape. Do not copy.

We had some fun this week for two reasons. One: I decided to take a photography class at the local community college. My first class was on Saturday. And two: we went sailing. The second one is obvious: sailing is fun and the weather has been really beautiful lately. Anything that gets one out on Lake Pend Oreille is a fine thing.

As for the first one, I'd forgotten how much fun it is to take pictures. Now I have assignments, so I have to go forth and photograph. I'm learning all about the thrills and chills of F-stops again. Technically, this course is about portrait photography with the goal of taking better pictures of your family and friends. The assignments mean I have to recruit James as a model. He's being very nice about it...although he may be less so after he sees my first efforts :-)

In more environmental and less creative news, the stinkbugs have awakened. Every Fall, those of us who live in the forest get to share it with numerous large, slow, hideous buzzing insects. Technically, I think they are really called pine beetles, but everyone I know calls them stink bugs because they stink when you squish them.

I squished a LOT of them yesterday out on the screened-in back deck. They crawl in through the cracks between the boards and then can't get out. I assisted in their departure.

After all that insect excitement yesterday, this morning while sleepily drinking my coffee, I looked down and one of our cats was sitting in front of a mouse. She was just *sitting* there. It was undoubtedly the same mouse the two useless felines have been stalking for the last two weeks. Sheesh

And, yes, for those of you who might be wondering, James attended to the mouse. It is now on the North ridge somewhere far, far away from the useless felines.
